I want to lighten my hair (to help hide greys) but it is currently colored dark brown. My natural color is dark blonde. I can't afford pro color right now. What should I do to color it at home? One shade, or try a highlighting kit? I don't want to accidentally make my hair look stripey, tho....(posted on these boards since these are all I read.) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Get it done pro, this one time. Save up if you have to. Get a good cut at the same time. Both will grow out well. THEN do it yourself. Drk Brn to Drk blonde w. hightlights is a big change. You will be very happy you did, and you will look great! [ Reply | More ]

Any way to embrace it? Eventually? I know a woman who was graying by 22 and it's white now, 50, she is a badass and looks awesome. Totally beautiful, confident and different from the flock. PLEASE at least do go pro for now, you will NOT regret the $$$. Find someplace you can take it from, or look into the schools. Sassoon has a good one I hear, cheap to nothing for a great hair experience. [ Reply | More ]

You should never do at home highlighting. But you could try a lighter shade single color process. I do this to cover my grays. [ Reply | More ]
