Friend's husband lost his job and he was the only earner. I feel terrible for them, but i see them out and about and it is as if nothing has changed. I am sure they are stressed, children in private school, mortgage, etc, but they seem to not show it and it is because of that that I don't ask "how are you doing." I feel badly, but this is very awkward and i don't know what is the right thing to do or say. Ideas? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

NP: You really don't know what their circumstances are. They may have a large savings, investments, family money. You just don't know until they bring it up. [ Reply | More

np:if you're close friends, I wld say okay to ask because you want to offer moral support and friendship more than anything else. If you're casual friends and/or you've never talked about anything personal like this, I wld say avoid it because you'll be prying. [ Reply | More
