variances are for the most part done with. They RARELY give a dc a variance. We tried 4 yrs ago since our zoned public is failing but no luck. We went private [ Reply | More ]

well 4 yrs ago I was told that the failing schools in the outer boroughs were given preference to attend a Manhattan school before the dc from a failing school here in the city. This was 4yrs ago so things may have changed but I've heard they have done away with variances [ Reply | More ]

yes that's PS 19 and it's bad (you are right). My friend taught there and left after a yr. She said she found it took difficult to teach when the parents don't want to listen to her suggestions. She hated the place and couldn't leave fast enough [ Reply | More ]

np - But you're in a different district. So you have to work within D1. [ Reply | More ]

As far as I know, yes. So you have D1 options which include lotteries (I believe) for the East Village progressive schools. [ Reply | More ]

yes I heard PS 40 is good too. You can try for the G&T schools like Nest that is on Houston and Columbia (M14) leaves you on the corner..or you can try for a lottery at Neighborhood school, Earth school (if you would like). We personally went private. Not sure if catholic school is an option but EPIPHANY is a very good school and so close to you [ Reply | More ]

yeah, am catholic, and stupidly am parishioner at st. francis xavier, just called today to become parishionner at epiphany. I drove past Nest on Houston and my DS said no way in hell is our kid going to a school that looks like that, we'd move first. I'd love to go private, but [ Reply | More ]
