I brought this up yesterday, but I am 40 and my orthodontist says that my jaw is screwed up and I will have big problems in the future without braces... the big ugly ones... not the hip Invisiline ones. I just spoke with a friend who "knows someone" who had her jaw broken and reset. She had it wired shut for two months and is now fine. Am I crazy, but that sounds somuch better that 2 years in braces. A diet and a fix in one ! Am I nuts ? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

No... I have two other appts with board certified orthodontists for other opinions. I can see a year - yeah it sucks, but I can get through this, etc - but 2 years with braces seems so... so... big and ugly... I never thought I was particularly vain, but I don't know how I'll do that... [ Reply | More

My best friend had braces for 2 years as an adult. She had the clear ones and they were hardly noticeable. No one, not even teenagers, get the big ugly metal ones anymore. [ Reply | More

Don't believe the orthodontist. I got scammed into Invisalign by an ortho who said I would lose all my teeth to periodontal disease later if I didn't close my gaps (I have healthy gums now). My new dentist actually called whatever state board there is for orthos to report this guy, it was total bs. [ Reply | More

This first ortho told me that i am not a candidate for Invisiline, and then I asked about the braces on the back of the teeth. He said only one guy in my toen does them and he would refer me, but did I know why there was only one. I asked if it was because the other guy was much smarter than the rest of them, but he said it was because it doesn't work... anyone had those ? [ Reply | More
