my december boy (5.5 yo) is in K. He is now reading Frog & Toad books, with modest assistance. I am so proud of him, but other moms make me feel like he's really behind. why can't everyone just use supportive words, instead of negativity all the time. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

don't listen to the other mothers. my boy is 6 and he's barely reading but very intelligent -- our kindergarten isn't as academically advanced (or pushy) as some other schools in the area -- he'll learn in his own good time... [ Reply | More ]

i would consider frog and toad in K, kind of slow. but then again, most kids in K in our school are older than yr son. [ Reply | More ]

because in our parents generation, you had self esteem despite your parents if you had any. you had to work for that. our kids are all the best at everything. [ Reply | More ]

good god -- give some examples of what other moms have said. why are you guys even talking about what your kids can or can't read? [ Reply | More ]

GF's daughter could not read until 2nd grade. she started with baby books, dick and jane and was very ashamed of her reading-less-ness. by 3rd grade, she was reading nicely and normally on grade level. she's now in styvesant and thriving. [ Reply | More ]
