My MIL was really nasty with me for years bc I wasn't the same nationality as her family. She really went out of her way to make me feel badly about EVERYTHING I did. One day, my DH finally told her to lay off bc he made his choice and he wasn't going to change his mind no matter what. At that point, she started going to a shrink and got on meds. Now she is very nice to me, helps me, is a friend to me, etc. but she's also in a severe depression bc she is terribly regretful about how she acted with me and DH before. We've asked her to put it aside, but for some reason she can't do it and keeps sinking deeper into her depression. Is there more to this story? I can't help thinking that this severe of a depression is brought on by more that what I know. Thoughts? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

so she's an immigrant? how old is she? I'm sure there's many things that are contributing to this besides what you mentioned...that's why she was so nasty to begin with. [ Reply | More ]

depression is a disease -- sometimes, it's hard to cure... i would just continue to encourage her to take her meds and seek talk therapy/ [ Reply | More ]
