Word of mouth? You've got to be kidding. I have yet to meet a parent who will share this information. The responses to this post already show that even on an anonymous board, no one is exchanging information. [ Reply | More ]

no, seriously. people talk about the tutors. it's no mystery if the math teacher is tutoring your kid. or if the reading teacher from another school is tutoring your kid and your neighbor's kids. [ Reply | More ]

Where are you? I'm in Jersey City and can recommend a math tutor, but I doubt she'll trek into Manhattan (just had a baby 2mo ago) [ Reply | More ]

How old is DC? What are the issues? (I may know someone -- seriously!) You can place ads in the graduate school job bulletins (Bank Street and Teachers College at Columbia). [ Reply | More ]

But I am looking for someone with a good track record. It seems no one is willing to share their personal experience! [ Reply | More ]

You can ask for references. Some tutors lose students b/c they "age out" (so the family will talk to you and is happy to share). The person who I'm thinking of is great -- and probably does have references. [ Reply | More ]

you would be taken more seriously if you posted on perhaps one or two boards, gave a subject and age and location, instead of being so general [ Reply | More ]

You should find teachers in your dc's school. This is the best way to start. Where are you? [ Reply | More ]

Connie Gavin. She used to be a teacher at Dalton. Now she tutors privately out of her apartment. [ Reply | More ]
