my 6.5mo is not very good at making eye contact. he does it occasionally, but is generally distracted and looking around (at toys, my watch, anything electronic). he is a pretty active kid, but i am wondering if i should be worried about this. thanks. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

lol. i'm just not sure what is normal at his age! i am also having a hard time keeping him interested when he is eating solids. he is obsessed with playing with the straps on his high chair. [ Reply | More ]

do you think he can hear and see alright? [ Reply | More ]

i think so. he plays well with toys. in terms of hearing he responds more to noises than to voices. [ Reply | More ]

It is hard to say here on the board. My dd had poor eye contact and when I asked ped, she asked alot of questions about her verbal skills. We watched it and sure enough, she was delayed in her speech. She's now nearing 4 and all caught up with speech, but we did do speech therapy. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

I noticed it pretty early on. She was also delayed in smiling and wouldn't smile a lot. Later, I learned that smiling and eye contact are their first forms of communication so it made sense she was delayed w/ speech. But, you know, it may be nothing w/ your son. You certainly cannot solve it tonight so try to put it in the back of your mind and ask your ped at your next visit. 8mos, right? Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

I think you should assume all is well until you hear otherwise! Ask at the 9mo appt. just to set your fears aside. DD is developmentally perfect...now she literally does not stop talking and we play 'the quiet game' on days she hasn't stopped to take breathe! Be careful what you ask for!? :) [ Reply | More ]
