How are you defining 2nd grade level? Can you give some examples of books he's reading already that are at the right level? I ask only because in the past I've found the UBers have a distorted sense of books' grade levels. For example, the Magic Tree House series is mostly 2nd grade reading level, but many people here insist they're K reading level books because they've known a number of dc who read them in K.
