Our hhi is 200k. We could afford private pre-k but applied to public instead, and got in. That will save us $15-20K next year. Fair? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Of course it is fair, you (or your landlord) is paying taxes. Our HHI is much less than yours ($150k) but we opted to do private pre-K instead (full day) instead of public. It was cheaper than hiring a person to do drop off/pick up and spend the rest of the day with the kid. [ Reply | More

actually unlike the rest of NY state, NYC doesn't really raise it's revenue from property taxes. It is from income taxes and commercial taxes. This is why when my family in Long Island bitches about my low property taxes I smile and keep my mouth shut. We have the same income, but chose private because we thought the education/program was better. We got scared when the acceptance letter had words that were spelled incorrectly... Also the public option was strange hours. [ Reply | More
