Can someone help me interpret the NEST report card? The poor performance on "communication" is a bit scary, but what do people make of the other results? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It's about right - a good school with great scores, but not at all what it could be. [ Reply | More ]

progress report doesn't say it's a good school -- a rating of "undeveloped" pretty much means they think it sucks. [ Reply | More ]

There is a school report card with letter grade (Nest got B) based on test scores and parents survey, and there is "quality review" (Nest got "undeveloped") based on the opinion of single consultant. [ Reply | More ]

a current NEST parent: I think that the biggest problem is the Administration doesn't have "best practices" in place. They haven't been in existence for long and the administration changed very radically about two years ago. So, the stupid little things which should be old hat can be a real headache. Like first day of school. The process to find out who would be your K kid's teacher was hectic. It ought not have been. But you also have some parents who have unrealistic expectations of the school. (I'm sure this is not unique to NEST. But at NEST they seem to be a very vocal minority.) For me, next year will tell a lot. I have seen the mistakes/errors of this year. I can't help but wonder will next year be the same mistakes (bad) or new ones (fair enough). [ Reply | More ]

Some of the other parents in my dc's class are awesome. Some I like, one or two couples I could do without. I have seen the prinicpal with the students and she is good. I have seen her before the lower school parents as a group and she was horrible. (Really horrible!) I have dealt with her one on one and she was good -- I said to myself and dw afterwards how pleasantly surprised I was by how well she handled me/the situation. (And that day I was at my wits end with the whole DOE -- she handled it well.) The lower school VP is great. I only really know the teachers for K and some of the specials. All five K teachers are good. My kid's teacher is new but great. I think the new art teacher there is incredible. As is the chess teacher. I don't know much about the dance teacher or gym. Music teacher is ok. Spanish teacher does not impress me. (Reacting here to what my child is (is not!) learning more than anything.) Their biggest problem is operations. [ Reply | More ]
