Go in and feed him at midnight, while he is sleeping (dream feeding); then move it earlier and earlier each night till you stop doing it. [ Reply | More ]

either do it incrementally - fewer and fewer minutes on the breast, else go cold turkey and CIO [ Reply | More ]

and fwiw, there's no reason to drop it medically speaking, unless you want to (I kept one night feed w/ my #1 until she was 10 mo old) [ Reply | More ]

np: I did it incremently. got down to 5 minutes and then did cio. it was very obvious to me then that ds wasn't hungry...just a habit. you can also try sending dh in with a small bottle, then reduce the amount till you're down to an ounce or two [ Reply | More ]

You have to remember you are the grown up, and babies cry. STart with the longest you can go- say 9 to 3, then push the time you will go to the crib to 4, 4:30, etc. until you are at at least 8-9 hours. [ Reply | More ]

You can try going to him when he cries, pick him up and pat him, soothe him, but don't feed him (good for dh to do this if you're bfing), put him down, let him cry for 5-10 mins, repeat as necessary. It only works if both partners are on board and it might take a few days. We do this every few months when there's a sleep shakeup; dd is now 13 mos. [ Reply | More ]

^^^should add that this is to get to a solid 8 hours or so; might be too soon to get to 10-12 yet. [ Reply | More ]

This isn't for everyone, but do you supplement at all? I do (and lay off me! I bf'd three kids for a year a piece.) Around 6 months, I gave a bottle of formula around 8 p.m. and put them down. My personal supply at that hour was pretty much a trickle; the bottle would fill their tummies for a nice, night-long sleep. (8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. [ Reply | More ]
