sil has a 2 year old. most weeks, they just stay in the house or go in the backyard. they rarely go anywhere. probably once a month, they go to the playground. i'm concerned that neither one of them gets any social interaction. also, they've never had a babysitter. i have a good relationship with sil. is there anything i can do to help with this isolation? Are you sure she isn't doing other things and just not sharing with you? Also keep in mind that plenty of people are totally happy this way. Her DD will start school in a year or 2 and get plenty of interaction. [ Reply | More ]

The kid is still pretty young. If this continues at 3 then say something. Offer to take them out, [ Reply | More ]

wow. i can say that when we were kids, we didn't socially interact all the time. if they are happy and it works for them, that's fine. i never have used a baby sitter, but DD has been with family on a few occassions [ Reply | More ]

op: i hear you all. she doesn't live too close. when we do visit, her son just follows my son around and almost "studies" him, like he's never seen anything like it. our kids are only 2 months apart. she has mentioned that she would like the occasional babysitter, but she doesn't trust that anyone can watch her son "well enough" or that a babysitter would "overstimulate" him [ Reply | More ]
