if you had the chance to move overseas for 4 years, very far away with few opportunities to come home for visits, but with the opportunity to save a significant amount of $s during that time, would you do it? factors holding me back are aging parents, kids are young and have already moved many times, have no social or other network in place we'd move to (and wouldn't be able to work, at least initially). it's dh's dream job though but huge disruption for our already disrupted family. do you live there? I am also afraid the weather will be miserable for dcs (and for me). very hot and humid all the time, all year round. though truth be told the other concerns are much more important to me now I can see this being a real killer if we actually go there. [ Reply | More

ok, fair enough! I would rather not go, all things being equal, but they aren't - DH would give up his dream job and our family would give up a great chance at financial security for the future (which we lack right now). Trying to figure out if there is a way I can get past this or if I'll just feel like it's 5 years of hell if we end up going. I know lots of people like it btw. [ Reply | More

I would in a heartbeat. I have a friend who just spent a year in Singapore with Dh and 3 DCs. Sent them all to the American Singapore school and loved it. Love love loved it. She has zero regrets and now they're off to europe! [ Reply | More
