Of course this Pre-K fiasco makes me very nervous that we wont get in to K next year either. Just spent 6 months looking for a place in the 107 zone, moved just in time to make the deadline, just to get rejected from pre-k. Something tells me that next year’s K class is going to go through this same thing and we may be sh*t out of luck. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Wow, that sounds so stressful. I live in the suburbs and can't imagine having to deal with that! [ Reply | More ]

how can you not get into the K of your zoned school? Pre-K I can see, but how can you not get in for K? [ Reply | More ]

there are only so many seats and in Park Slope I'm willing to bet that number wont be high enough for all of the kids entering that grade. [ Reply | More ]

too many db's. There are children on a wait list on one downtown nyc school. They will probably be busses to another school for k [ Reply | More ]

# seats is finite. DOE is very clear about this. They can only accomodate so many kids at any one school. If the number of kids in the zone is larger than the number of seats, then some kids are not getting in. [ Reply | More ]

Don't they have to take your kid for K? If they don't what do they do, send your kid to another school? I thought that they have to place all dc for K. [ Reply | More ]

K is optional. They will send db to another school in the same district [ Reply | More ]

why in heaven's name would you move for public pre-k when there's absolutely no guarantee you will get in, particularly at a popular, sib-filled school like 107? you realize that pre-k and k are two completely different things when it comes to enrollment, correct? and it's really not a fiasco. there are rumors that sibs were shut out, but they are unconfirmed. in your case, your shot at a seat was low anyway. so why is it a fiasco? i'm honestly stunned when i read things like this. I didn't just move into 107 for pre-k. 107 goes through 5th grade (I'm guessing you already know that but perhaps are just being short sighted). We were hoping for pre-k. If you pay attention to what is happening it is obvious that there are going to be issues with k next year. The DOE has already said that the K process will be centralized next year, the same as pre-k this year. [ Reply | More ]

There are not going to be issues. You are zoned for 107 and your kid is guaranteed a seat at your zoned school for K. The whole centralization affects only the folks that want to go to out-of-zone schools. End of story. Unless the DOE redraws the zoning map but that is a different story altogether. [ Reply | More ]

this is wrong-many schools are past capacity and have started wait lists. you aren't guaranteed a spot at your zoned school for k-can send to other school in district if there is space. [ Reply | More ]

If you think there isn't a crisis looming for next year go download the Rezoning report which specifically talks about District 15 -- it is on the Comptroller's website. It may take a couple yrs as rezoning is highly political. They may find you a spot somewhere else in the system, but w/ sibs getting priority next yr you are not guaranteed a spot in your zoned school! [ Reply | More ]
