This might be a silly question, but just starting to think about school for dd, and am a little confused about the G&T. Are there full schools that just have G&T and then other schools with one class per grade? What is Anderson and Hunter? And please don't send me to the DOE website, I already went there, and didn't get the answer I wanted. Thanks. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Hunter is a G&T school that is run by Hunter College on the UES, it is considered the best G&T school. Anderson, NEST and TAG are run by the DOE and are also stand alone G&T school, Anderson is advanced by one year in math. The other programs are G&T within a gen ed school [ Reply | More ]

Hunter has a separate application process you need to call Hunter and get an app thentake the SB test. Anderson requires the OLSAT, but the DOE keeps changing the process so you need to check with the DOE during the year you will be applying [ Reply | More ]

OP: I am more curious than anything else, since it seems to be quite an obsession on this board. I live in Brooklyn, so would not even apply to those schools since I'm not putting my kid through that kid of commute so young. There is a G&T class in our local zoned school, but I don't particularly beleive in this system, especially for pre-K or K. My dd will be 4 in 2009, so I'm just trying to get a sens of all of this now, since it's probably going to ba another hellish application year stating next fall. [ Reply | More ]
