I keep hearing about different superstar journalists who send their kids to SHSH. The school seems to get mixed reviews here, but how bad can it be to send db to a school full of journalist & Columbia professor kids? I'm still totally ignorant about NYC schools, but that sounds like a lot better environment than many of the places that this board focuses on, no? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

all of the NY private schools, even those that are knocked down on UB have children whose parents are well educated and employed as professionals in impressive jobs. Not sure why journalists are *more* than lawyers or MBAs? [ Reply | More ]

We looked at SHSH beautiful building and great focus on community and world values, very traditional a bit religous and only goes to 8th. I think you need to look at the school and not whose kids go there. [ Reply | More ]

Our db is at SHSH -- and we simply love it ! We think that the info on UB is inaccurate. SHSH is a smaller school (compared to other schools that get discussed a lot), hence, the pool of parents who have REAL (as opposed to hearsay) experience is much smaller. Contrary to the claims here on UB, SHSH is also not a very religious school. Yes, it has chapel, but so do Trinity and other schools, but that is a forum where moral questions are discussed. Also, a large number of families in the school are jewish and absolutely comfortable with it. Academically, we find the program very strong and the faculty amazing. so my advice is to check out the school yourself and not rely so much on UB. [ Reply | More ]

Doesn't St Hilda's St Hugh's have daily chapel? Their website makes it very clear that it is chapel--not some kind of "meeting." Do they offer communion? Not all Episcopal schools do. [ Reply | More ]

i heard good things about them, but most people don't want to have to go through the admissions process again (for HS)!! And some don't like it bec it's more traditional and structured. [ Reply | More ]

The negative press on UB is relatively new - it's a terrific school that gets less press in general b/c it is a single sex catholic school and so the pool is automatically smaller - for what it's worth, a friend who runs an after school program in the city and deals with kids from private schools all over the city has always siad that the sacred heart girls are the nicest, best behaved, mose polite and participatory kids he deals with - and everyone I know with a child there absolutely raves about it [ Reply | More ]

SHSH is co-ed (not single-sex) and not catholic, but episcopalian. Another example of how 'informed' posters on UB are!!! [ Reply | More ]

i thought it was sacred heart - i'm clearly an idiot! - my st hilda's friends are happy, but it is an uws school and religious (some friends withdrew the application b/c the head turned them off with as overly religious speech at the info night - forgive me for my error! [ Reply | More ]
