The shows about woman that have multiples over 3 make me so angry. Those women are ignorant and selfish and a drain on society's resources. And they dare to beg for help from the community as if they had no choice in having 5 kids. Really infuriates me. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

here are some of my thoughts. i think children are inherently good. i don't agree with the "drain on society's resources" argument when it comes to having kids, whether you have them one at a time or five at a time. i have no problem with asking for help from your community. that's what communities do. they help friends and neighbors when they need help. i would criticize someone who demanded help, whether they had ten singletons or two sets of quintuplets. I understand (and appreciate) your points but 5 healthy children are a lot less of a drain on society than 5 preemies! I think it is crazy that women would rather their babies be seriously ill with terrible developmental delays, or even die, rather than reduce to a number that will in all likelihood be healthy. It is NUTS!!! [ Reply | More ]

i don't see myself doing it any time soon, but i disagree that it's a bad thing. although in a way, i'm surprised the insurance companies pay for it. [ Reply | More ]

are you talking about selective reduction? I'm all for this, but I'm sure we'll get flamed. ITA it's selfish to have so many [ Reply | More ]

I am absolutely in favor of a woman's right to choose but think it is completely ignorant when she is risking the lives of her babies! [ Reply | More ]

So, their choice is fine if it is the one you would make.... Don't get me wrong, I don't think it is the better choice but part of allowing an adult to have a choice is allowing them to make what we would consider a "bad" choice. I mean Pat Robertson believes in a woman's right to choose. So long as she chooses what he believes God would want. I don't see your beliefs as any different -- just your outcome. [ Reply | More ]

OP: I get ya. I just felt sick looking at those poor babies - I felt like they were suffering needlessly. [ Reply | More ]

No. They are suffering because something bad happened. You are focusing on the wrong thing. [ Reply | More ]

What do you mean "something bad happened"??? As if that was not an absolute certainty for a woman carrying 5 babies?? Please explain yourself!!! [ Reply | More ]

No. The opposite. Not all multiples have bad outcomes. And not all multiples end up having the full number of implantations. (Natural/spontaneous abortion) When those babies are "suffering" they are suffering because "something bad happened." [ Reply | More ]

OP: I agree that not all multiples have bad outcomes, but am not getting your "something bad happened" argument. Find me one set up quintuplets that weren't preemies and maybe you can win this argument. [ Reply | More ]

They need not be full term to not "suffer needlessly." Your point is that all quintuplets suffer therefore the mothers ought to have reduced. Granted quintuplets don't make it to full term but I am not granting your logical leap that they suffer needlessly. [ Reply | More ]

ITA with the OP. It's also so risky to the babies. They and their doctors are morons. I can't even stand to see those septuplets. [ Reply | More ]

You could make the same argument about any family that has more than two kids is using up more than their share of natural resources. [ Reply | More ]

OP: No, the majority of women aren't on hospital bedrest for their entire pregnancy, don't need 100 hospital staff to deliver their babies, and most babies aren't in ICU for months on end with long-lasting problems. [ Reply | More ]
