The only downside so far I've seen to urban living with kids is the swear words they're exposed to needlessly. Today we were on the crosstown 86th street bus and a woman in front of us called some guy an a$$hole loudly enough for my 6yos to hear her. They spent the whole bus ride asking me what that meant. We ended up sitting behind her and she heard this exchange, with me telling my kids to stop saying it because it was what I called a super bad word and really mean to say. And finally the woman turned around to me and apologized. But she said he deserved it. (from what I witnessed, he just brushed up against her bag. Not enough, IMO, to use the A word). ugh [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Not so much better out here in the burbs - had to ask my neighbor kids in their backyard to watch their language while my dc were playing in our yard & out on Fire Island this weekend a table of boys were cursing up a blue streak next to us. [ Reply | More ]
