Dh's niece is getting married. 3 yrs ago we sent her $500 for her high school grad. for which she NEVER acknowledged/thanked us. Now 4 of us need to fly out of state for a weekend wedding & I'm sure dh will want to give her at least $500 again. I'm dead set against it & don't want to fight about it. WWYD? It's going to be a huge financial hit for us at a time we were hoping to take a vacation (w/ the kids). The wedding is going to be in the sticks of OH. [ Reply | More ]

np: It's your husband's close family. Family is important. If my sister didn't come to my child's wedding, just because it was inconvenient, I would have a hard time forgiving her. [ Reply | More ]

oh I'm not suggesting we won't go (btw it's on ds's birthday & he was going to have his party) but I'm just still sour about giving so much $ last time & not being thanked and now we're going to spend thousands again. [ Reply | More ]

He needs to give what he wants but also, is there a way to get the message to this kid either straight from DH's mouth or via another relative that thank you's are expected. Maybe she has grown up since high school (!) anyway and knows the right thing to do. [ Reply | More ]

I think she'll be better this time - I just resent it - don't get me started on the rush wedding so her fiance will get his monthly stipend increased as he ships off with the Air Force since he'll be married (I think this is a recent relationship) [ Reply | More ]

That all sounds very immature and irresponsible but she is family and it's good to support family and be a good example to your kids. [ Reply | More ]

thank you for understanding & I agree w/ you - just need to vent - this family is so wacky at times that things seem to still amaze me for some reason [ Reply | More ]

either you are really good at holding a grudge or you're that woman who is so threatened by her dh's family that she pretends to think a high school kid's thank you note is this important [ Reply | More ]

let's not overthink this please - no need to be threatened - it was a more involved story than that so I apologize for not properly "justifying" my annoyance - but you did hit it right, I'm really good at holding a grudge, definitely need to work on that. [ Reply | More ]
