I run three miles/30 minutes a day. Is this really beneficial? It's not enough to make a weight difference and I'm fairly active anyhow. Anyone know what the deal is with exercise like this? It's pita and I'm close to giving it up. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Maybe I'd be heavier w/o it. While I'm tempted to give it up, at my age (don't ask - late 40's)I could never start up again, so I keep at it. It's at least good cardio. [ Reply | More ]

that is a really good point - if you stopped it would be really hard to get up to the level where you could run 3 10 minute miles a day again. I'm 37, and I feel like I'd sooner be able to fly that run 3 miles. [ Reply | More ]

NP. You're kidding?! I'm 43 and can race a sub 8 minute 5K and finish 5 miles in under a 10 minute per mile pace. [ Reply | More ]

that's great. But if you stopped doing it and sat on the couch for 3 years, you'd have trouble getting back into such good shape at your age. Point is, OP shouldn't stop. [ Reply | More ]

it's beneficial in terms of health and will help your metabolism. however, it's probably not going to make a huge difference in terms of weight. that comes primarily from diet. [ Reply | More ]

It has to be doing you a world of good in a lot of ways. Maybe it doesn't make a difference in your weight because you are already at a good weight. But it is so good for your heart and your muscles. I really wish I could run 3 miles (for me the weight would just pour off - but I'm fat.) [ Reply | More ]

Burning calories > calorie intake = weight loss. Therefore, even if you are running 3 miles per day, if you are consuming more than what you are burning, you won't lose weight. Try other forms of cardio combined with weight resistance training. Eat clean. [ Reply | More ]

if you want to lose weight, eat less. that's way more important than exercise for weight loss. if you want to make your body look "better", combine cardio with weight training - alternate days. [ Reply | More ]

My point is that weight loss is mostly from eating, not from exercise. because 300 calories/day just isn't that much. [ Reply | More ]
