My sitter/mother's helper came in on Memorial Day. I paid her the usual rate $12/hour. Was that outrageous? She wanted to be paid a higher rate, but I am at home, so it's not like she HAD to come in that day. Thoughts? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

seems like something you might want to discuss with her ahead of time [ Reply | More ]

OP: am I expected to pay a higher hourly rate because it's a Federal holiday even though I'm home and don't absolutely need to have her come? [ Reply | More ]

Does she not get any paid holidays? I agree with poster above that you should have discussed this with her sooner. [ Reply | More ]

OP: no paid holidays. she's part-time and i'm very flexible w/ her on the hours, plus i roll up my sleeves when she's here. we change diapers together, prepare food together, etc. [ Reply | More ]

if she's just a mother's helper and you're there, she has nerve to ask for a higher rate... [ Reply | More ]
