How do I help ds (1st grade) who feels the need to always belittle others to deal w/ his own low self esteem - particularly his little sister? It makes me so sad that he sounds so mean. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

show him. when he gives a compliment, compliment him back or reward him somehow...don't give him attention if he is mean [ Reply | More ]

I hear you - I try so hard to find the positive & point it out but it is too hard to hear him talk so nasty & not say anything - yet nothing gets through to him anyway :( [ Reply | More ]

this sort of behavior really tends to be socially enforced. i mean, you could talk to his teachers about keeping an eye out for it but it will probably be other kids that make him learn to act differently [ Reply | More ]
