I'm a woman with curly hair who was raised by a mom with pin straight hair. Her comments on my hair being difficult and frizzy really made me hate my hair my entire life. I have 2 dds with gorgeous curly hair and always tell them how beautiful it is. There is a girl in my building who is AA and 9 yr old. I know this is none of my business nor would I ever say anything but her mom lets her use hair pieces (like straight pony tail, ect). To me this is such a shame. I wish more moms would just show their dds that they are beautiful with just how they are. Show them to love and embrace their natural beauty. My own cousin is half black and her mom put a relaxer in her hair when she was 11 yr old. My cousin has been doing this since then. Just a shame what we do to the young [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: my cousin was btwn 9-11yr old. I think it's young but my point is that our mothers gave us this complex about our hair. Never giving showing us to love it and accept it. We have our entire adult life to get neurotic..why do this to a young dc [ Reply | More ]

i guess my situation is a little different. im african, i grew up there so there wasnt really a complex about hair but as you got older, it was something all the girls wanted. but i kwym though, must be awful growing up thinking you had awful hair when it just wasnt handled properly. on a lighter note, i feel sorry for zahara jolie-pitt. her parents clearly have no clue about her hair [ Reply | More ]

or: just let it grow long and natural. It looks so beautiful when it out natural. I also wash with lots of conditioner to make the tangles easier to get rid of. With my dds I make pony tails, 2 braids or just let loose. SOmetimes my dd has a bun. Otherwise its out and natural [ Reply | More ]
