My 6.5 mo dd has an ear infection. Started antibiotics Monday. She is very hoarse. I would think this was normal if she'd been crying alot more than normal, but she's really not. Anyone BTDT? She's on amoxicillin. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

according to our ped, croup is going around (dc has that and ear infection). could just be a mild case of croup for your dc. hope she feels better [ Reply | More ]

Is croup treated w/ antibiotics? Just wondering if that's what it is if the antibiotics would kick it out of her. [ Reply | More ]

no. rest, liquids (my dc is drinking a ton of water), hot steamy shower, humidifier when sleeping. [ Reply | More ]

My dd is only 6.5 mo. I nurse her 3x/day and she gets 2 oz of juice/day (constipation issues). I don't give her any other liquid. She has had the humidifier on for 2 weeks. [ Reply | More ]

nursing is good too. don't worry-she will be ok. being hoarse and croupy sounds worse than it always is. only time to worry is if she breathes in a hoarsy sound (wheezes). we sit in steamy bathroom right before bed to help go to sleep. [ Reply | More ]

Pretty typical symptom with post-nasal drip. [ Reply | More ]

Most likely the ear infection and the hoarseness are both symptoms of a viral upper respitory infection. lots of rest and liquids. that's about all you can do. the ear infection would likely clear up on its own without the amoxicillin. [ Reply | More ]

Antibiotics are useless if the ear infection is viral, which most of them are. But it sounds like your dd just has cold symptoms (which are likely related to the infection). [ Reply | More ]
