Have already signed contract for private K. Financial situation has suddenly and unexpectedly changed. We will be okay long-term, but need to do some serious belt-tightening in the short-term. What are your best money-saving tips for NYC? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no cabs, cook at home (we do take out only once a month) and pack lunches, no more Starbucks (buy a thermos and make coffee at home), set a budget (especially for food) and stick to it. [ Reply | More ]

We have no mortgage or other debt, so if we seriously cut back our disposable spending so that we don't have to touch savings (which I think we can do), we can stay in a holding pattern until the next job comes along. [ Reply | More ]

depends on your spending habits. but at least you have the knowledge that it'll be short term. much easier to cut back for the short term. 1. look at every fixed expense and see how it can be reduced. you can cut back on your cable, your telephone, your cell phone, your car insurance. 2. look at all variable expenses and cut back by a minimum of 10%. groceries, electricity, etc. [ Reply | More ]

for kids clothing: used on ebay or ask friends if their kids have outgrown anything. [ Reply | More ]
