PG with #3 and am still amazed how ppl (especially women) won't offer you a seat. I always offer a seat to a pg woman, elderly, mom with small dc, ect. Who are raising these ppl? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

you are in the NE, yes? I don't think we realize just how bad it is until we are pregnant or in need another way. Nothing has changed, it's just the way it is here, unfortunately. My eyes were opened for the same reason when I was pg. Get me outta here!! [ Reply | More ]

op: yes I'm in NYC. I was born and raised here and my parents always showed me manners. I also show my dds to give up their seat to those who need it. It just still amazes me how ppl just play dumb and choose to be rude [ Reply | More ]

I agree. I think we are the minority--and I'm not being obnoxious. I truly believe that there are more ppl here who just have no manners. I was 8.5 mths pg and it was so clear my shoes couldn't even get on my feet. Do you think ANYONE on the train got up?? Not one. I sat on the floor [ Reply | More ]

Are you serious? I experience this every day in the morning when it is crowded and people are tired. In the afternoon people usually offer me a seat, but NEVER during morning rush (I take the 1,2 or 3) [ Reply | More ]

Do you go during the morning rush (8-9)? The trains are usually packed so tight people can barely fit on them - I'd be shocked if people could even see a pg person, let alone give their seats up. [ Reply | More ]

That could be the difference - after 8 people can barely get on the trains. Although I took the 2 at 7:30 this morning and no one offered me a seat (I'm 7 mos pg) [ Reply | More ]

i endured 3 pregnancies riding the subway and the train. honestly i was more grateful to people who gave me a seat than resentful of people who didnt. people are absorbed in their own world and dont always notice your pregnancy. [ Reply | More ]

that is certainly true, but there is a certain type of white, middle to upper middle class man (usually in a suit) who SEES you then looks away or buries his face in his paper [ Reply | More ]

If I'm standing, and there's someone who obviously needs a seat standing, I pick a guy like that and sweetly ask him if he'd mind getting up. [ Reply | More ]

I agree - poster above who never gets a seat in the morning - realistically, if it is a short ride I just deal. If I really feel that I have to sit down (really tired or uncomfortable or long ride) I'll just ask for a seat. No one has ever said no when I ask. [ Reply | More ]

i'll never forget, i was about 7 mo pg, with my 2 yo dd on a bus. th bus was somewhat crowded, not bursting but standing room only. I had to hold my 2 yo cross town, and no one gave up a seat for me. well, 1 very elderly AA woman offered, but i declined. and then we glared at the men together [ Reply | More ]

True, I'd ask a likely suspect if I needed to sit but I'm outspoken. I'd also ask people to help me with my stroller sometimes. 99% people were happy to do it - they just needed to be awakened out of their stupor [ Reply | More ]

i will say that i think people who have never been pg, men included, really do not understand how very uncomfortable you can be. not that it makes makes it OK, but i'm just saying. [ Reply | More ]

I totally agree with OP. Having said that (I do give my seat to pg woman -- and I have been pg twice. So I know), I sometime feel hesitant to offer a seat because I'm not totally sure that the woman is pregnant or just bit, well, plump. When it is obvious, it's no brainer. But I don't want to offend people by offering a seat to somebody who is not pg, but look pg... [ Reply | More ]

np: I think that's ok. I've found in 2 pregnancies that it really wasn't until towards the end-- when there was NO mistaking my condition-- that I really needed to sit. Or very early, b/c of morning sickness, but I couldn't expect anyone to know about that. [ Reply | More ]

np: maybe not, and I get the whole "I am strong woman" pride thing, but let's face it: Pregnant women very often have bad balance, swollen, achy feet, achy groin, and on and on. Offering them a seat is the decent thing to do. [ Reply | More ]
