OK, had this discussion IRL, wondering what you strangers say. Let's say 8 yo DD and 5 yo DS are taking a bath together. What would you do if DD starts yanking on DS's penis? Both kids are goofy-laughing, if that makes a difference. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Agreed, but how many times does the issue actually come up for her to know about it? I mean, it isn't like brush your teeth, wash your hands, no hitting, stuff that comes up every day. So if it's a first infraction, you make it absolutely clear that this is forbidden, then move on unless she wants to test you. [ Reply | More

"forbidden" may have been an extreme word---but my point is the same as yours--that there is no way to know that such behavior is not acceptable before the fact, and once it happens, let them know it's not okay. I do think you need to let an 8-year-old know it is not acceptable in our society to go around yanking on boys' penises, you just don't need to freak about it. [ Reply | More
