it's medicine. You don't have to "convince" a 3 year old of anything. You hold the kid down and shove it down his throat. End of story. [ Reply | More ]

I know - why would OP let 3yo think he might have control of the situation? he has no choice. she was just stringing him along [ Reply | More ]

This is one of the few situations where bribery is a good idea. Unless it's a med that he is going to have to take for more than a week or so, "take your medicine and you can have a cookie" or some M&Ms or whatever it takes to wash away the taste of the medicine will make it much easier on everyone. itda. i've used bribery in many situations - it's one of our primary ways to work with our child with autism. but medicine is different. I've held a large 6yo down many times to take his medicine. and guess what? he learned from that, and he drinks it down now. [ Reply | More ]

mine was the opposite - force made her harder to deal with and more inclined to fight back. knowing that she was going to get something to erase the horrid aftertaste (usually chocolate or honey) made her so much more cooperative. [ Reply | More ]

can't you mix it with something? My 3 year old needs to take allergy medicine for about 3 months each year. If I waited until he "agreed" to take it, I would be an hour late for work every day! I just put it in his breakfast food and he has no idea. [ Reply | More ]
