it's a cult. no reading until past 2nd grade. no black crayons (color of death!) in Bay Area, they do a Solstice dance on Mt Tam. And heard some personal horror stories. I believe they actually do home visits to make sure there's no TV. Expect ALL organic foods. [ Reply | More ]

wood toys only. Zero tv. late reading. There are some cool things about it - there are about a lot of preschool methodologies/curriculum. [ Reply | More ]

Personally, my dcs do Montessori and I do think Waldorf is out there. But I also think there is no one size fits all for kids and for the right kid, it could be great. [ Reply | More ]

well, for sure, there is no cookie-cutter solution. my kids are in public pre-school, a reverse-inclusion special needs program with an excellent student/teacher ratio. ds is SN, dd is a typical peer in a different classroom. It's great for us, I don't know how well she would've done in Mont. But honestly, I've heard almost no personal accounts of Waldorf turning out well. [ Reply | More ]

There are some lovely aspects in the early years, pleasing to the senses, calm. HOwever, I don't think they are good educational settings. Far too dogmatic, don't take into account any research about learning styles or brain development, define themselves according to the "Waldorf way" when I think schools should define themselves around learning and adapt to the times.
