Does anyone know what it takes to call yourself an interior designer? Im doing a major renovation of house and want to decorate myself but want to be able to buy from "for the trade only" vendors and get designer discounts. Can you just say you are a designer or do you have to join some professional association? TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

the lower price is partly because it is assumed you are paying sales tax. If you don't pay the tax, you will get into trouble eventually if you are caught. They are also assuming that you are a professional and will do volume, so it is worth it to them. And that you are marking up, which you need to do if you are really in business. If you are just playing around, it doesn't really matter. If you are pretending to be a professional, and have no idea what that means, and have no standards or real ability to run a business, you will screw yourself and your client eventually.
