Yes. If she starts writing letters to everyone--the doctors, the hospital, the insurance companies--they may back down. But she should start off polite and very thankful. [ Reply | More ]

thanks for the advice. i just feel so bad for her and even paying a couple of hundred a month would be a major hardship for her family. [ Reply | More ]

yes. very likely the doctor's will end up taking whatever her insurance will pay for out of network. just talk to billing [ Reply | More ]

she needs to write letters immediately. I had a similar problem with my dd. In Rhode Island, no matter what kind of insurance you have or what was done to the baby...the baby is covered under the MOTHERS insurance for the first 30 days. I got bills from the doctors that did the ultrasounds, the neurologist...etc, all wanting me to pay....forget it, I wrote letters to everyone that sent me a bill and said they better bill it out again, and not to send me another bill, and I have not received one...that was a year ago! Have her check with her insurance---most of the time hospitals sign an agreement with the insurance co and aren't allowed to balance bill--meaning that they're not supposed to bill for whatever insurance doesn't cover. Not sure if that applies to specific doctors, but we had a similar situation and our insurance told us we weren't responsible (BC/BS and NYU Med NICU) [ Reply | More ]
