I am losing my job, I have a choice of resigning or getting terminated. No reasons have been given to me, but I know that I haven't done anything crazy (stealing, etc.). Should I resign, or should I let them terminate me? Which would guarantee me unemployment compensation assuming I didn't do anything "wrong"? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: I am a public school teacher, and yes, they do suck. People, get involved in your school, because admins that run over their staff the way this one does should be the ones collecting unemployment. Seriously. [ Reply | More ]

op: I'm glad to be done, even though I love the kids and staff. I'd be very, very upset if I had kids in this district, though- they do this a lot, it's despicable, and I'd say that even if they hadn't done it to me. [ Reply | More ]

definitely let them terminate you. if it comes up later on you can say you were given the option to resign but really needed the unemployment benefits. nobody will begrudge you that. [ Reply | More ]

It depends. If you resign you will not qualify for unemployment unless they list you as terminated. Did you discuss any severance. They might be willing to give you more if they don't have to pay unemployment insurance benefits for you. [ Reply | More ]

anything to do with the "rubber room" i heard a report on NPR about this yesterday. It is basically teachers in a holding room either waiting to be terminated or waiting to fight against being terminated but they still collect salary! teachers can be stuck there for years. [ Reply | More ]
