Our gen ed is having an orientation for incoming K students early next week, but we are obviously still waiting to hear about G&T. DD will go to gen ed if citywide G&T doesn't work out, but I'm worried about having her go to an orientation for a school she might not go to; i.e., would it be too confusing to go to orientation and have her get all excited about that school and then switch gears on her if Anderson or nest become an option? Anyone else in the same situation? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

don't know why the damn DOE can't get their gears together. [ Reply | More ]

In sympathy, they are HUGE and coordination is hard. On the other hand, they really don't care about a bunch of whiny parents. The kids will have to deal no matter what. [ Reply | More ]

yes they are huge but come on not like they have one small staff. The city agencies are notorious for being uncoordiated [ Reply | More ]

and the kids, unlike the parents it seems, suffer the least [ Reply | More ]

The kids suffer less than the parents, but it's not without cost to them. [ Reply | More ]

if you keep it low key and don't expose the children to the process that much there won;t be any cost to them. Just tell the kid you are going to a school she might be going to this fall and leave it at that. [ Reply | More ]

I'd skip the orientation. It's not like your dd really needs it even if she goes to that school. [ Reply | More ]

It's not ideal, but just say you are going to see a school she MIGHT go to. I switched my DD at the very last minute before first grade began. It was wrenching, but because I had told her this might happen, she wasn't as blindsided as I thought she might be. [ Reply | More ]

We are having a tour of our zoned school next week. I told DD that we are going to look at a school she might go to, and I left it at that. We are either Anderson or one of our zoned G&T or our regular zoned public. Just telling her we are still deciding which is best school for her, but this is one of them. [ Reply | More ]

eh, I hear this argument all the time. Do you really believe your kid will be confused? Will be all excited about this one school? Really? I bet you a thousand bucks your kid doesn't care at all. She'll have fun next week. She will have fun when you do the G&T orientation. She will have fun whatever school you choose in the end for her. Kids don't care that much at that age (unless you push the issue, of course). [ Reply | More ]

I know how you feel. Our zoned shcool is having an ice-cream social on the 12th. I think we are going to skip it. Although, I have changed my mind several times so far. [ Reply | More ]

In same position...probably same school. I think he'll go to orientation, since it's most likely he'll end up there. [ Reply | More ]

We are in the same position too. I think I am going to take my son I don't think he ultimately will care--it will just be visiting one more school [ Reply | More ]
