Soon we will have to make a decision if we want to kep our spot at PS150 (TLC) or go with G&T. One major factor in the decision will be the sibling policy for PS150's pre-K. Do siblings of currently enrolled kids get an automatic acceptance into the pre-K program? Considering that I have two more of them at home it would be nice to just lean back and have it all put together for you and we will start worrying when MS time comes around. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

bwaaah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Don't you GET it? Even IF sibs get automatic enrollment now for pre K, there is NO guarantee that it will be the case when your sib needs to attend. That's the thing with the BOE, they change the rules every year. This was one of the many reasons we have decided to leave the city (have 3 too and just can't deal any more) [ Reply | More ]

not in same situation - but it is true that the rules may change every year. I think what you have to do right now is make the best decision for your family and dc who is starting K; if that is 150 because it is close - then that makes sense...it will all work out for you in the years to come but no way to predict what the system will be like later on...unfortunately! I would have to agree with above poster you should not make decisions based on sibling polocy as it changes every year. We are applying next year for K and have one dc at Anderson and will apply to eight privates plus G&T and Hunter. If Anderson work out great but I am not remotely counting on it. [ Reply | More ]

I am the poster above and also just want to say that you should feel lucky to have GREAT choices! We are faced with a decision to make also and I just keep reminding myself that we are in the best possible situation (in our opinion) in terms of K...so it will work out either way. [ Reply | More ]

ITA, but out the whole K thing is very stressful especially when you have more coming down the pike. I don't know how we will manage if we have 3 dc's in different schools (both me and dh work) but we will and hopefully they will all thrive [ Reply | More ]

i hear ya! we were counting on our dcs being in preschool and K about a block apart next year...then the g/t results came in and we may be schlepping our older dc all over town...it just never works out like you want! [ Reply | More ]

I'm the OR and I wasn't trying to make light of your post but my 2nd dc is starting K this year. Older already in public (2nd grade). I know several upset parents this year who have dc's at district G&Ts and NEST who thought their younger sibs would get in and now that they haven't made the cutoff are struggling to figure out how to make 2 drop offs work next year. Your best shot if you want all your dcs together is your zoned public...but for some (like us) it wasn't a good option. Anything other than your zoned public and you are gambling that your kids may not attend the same school [ Reply | More ]

ITA with this, but I can't envision a scenario in which PS150 sibs wouldn't have priority. [ Reply | More ]

the sib policy at 150 is the same as everywhere else. [ Reply | More ]

I think your chances of getting a sib into PS150 are better than getting the sib into a G&T. The sib doesn't has to test in to the former. Look what happened at NEST. However, if you're the mom making the commute from the UES, I would forget PS150 and go for PS6 or LL or whatever district G&T you are eligible for and worry about the sib thing down the road. You're not going to want to make that commute for 10 years or however long all three sibs are in 150, plus the MS commute, etc. [ Reply | More ]

The commute is a non-issue. We both work in that area. [ Reply | More ]

Fair enough. Still, if it were me, I'd pick a school closer to home. [ Reply | More ]

Will you have to let 150 know before the G&T placements are announced? That doesn't seem fair. [ Reply | More ]

Isn't the problem that even at a small school like PS150 there could easily be more sibs than the 18 pre-K spots? Of course, since there is no pre-K at a G&T, even not-great odds are better than nothing. I think in any case, though, counting on public pre-K, even for a sib, is a bad idea. [ Reply | More ]
