Trying to decide whether to apply to 2's programs for spring 09 (db will be 2.4 yo). How much do they cost generally? I'd prefer 2-3 days a week. Also, if db doesn't separate well, do most schools give you a refund if they can refill the slot? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

some schools require the dc to be 2.5 yrs minimum for admission but some start a bit younger. You know your dc best. 2-3 days is good for like 2-3 hrs a day. Our school for the 2's was a little over 7k for 3days/2.5 hrs a day. I don't think they refund tuition if the kids don't sep. BUT many schools don't rush the dc to separate. there are a few programs that's i've picked in our neighborhood (madison play group, and a couple of others) that take 2.4, we wouldn't be applying to a huge list of schools. $7K isn't bad -- probably what the "preschool alternative" programs would wind up costing for 2 days a week... oh that's good. When my kids were too young for 2's admission I went to a 2's class at our local Y. It was 2 times a week for 1.5 hrs a day and was about 4k [ Reply | More

2.4 is too early for most preschools. You won't fi9nd that many. The ones that do have it are for only 2-3 times a week, for a few hours. Your db will separate just fine. If she doesn't, it will probably be your fault for babying her too much. [ Reply | More

the separation process at most manhattan schools is very long for kids that age. Don't worry about that part -- the teachers know what they are doing and 99% of the time it works out just fine. But there are only a handful of programs that take kids that age anyway and they are often filled with sibs. [ Reply | More
