Plan to have apartment painted (ceilings and walls) - how bad would it be to continue to live here while it's being painted? What did you do? Looking for ideas! In nyc, if that helps. Tia [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op:I think I'd like to get it over and done with asap too. Just wondering where to stay/how much to budget for temporary accommodation etc. It's for early July so wondering if I should make it a holiday for me and 2 dc as dh would have to stay! no big deal, honestly. We did one room at a time and furniture is moved into teh center of the room and covered during the day. Uncover it at night and sleep. [ Reply | More

are you skim coating or just painting....no dust with skim coating and latex paint has minimal fumes...dries in less than an hour. I like the clean smell of new paint. And windows can be opened during JUly. If you feel "stressed" by the idea of fumes, use the new paints from BMoore which are supposedly mroe eco. [ Reply | More

op:oh dear, I don't even know what skim coating means! There was some water damage in a few spots left over from previous owner so paint needs to be scraped off first? tks for info re. BM [ Reply | More

skim coating means that they essentially re-plaster the entire wall and then sand it down to be super smmoth...adds cost. You don't scrape paint. Water damage may require that you repair the dry wall (and there will be a little "dustiness.") [ Reply | More

sounds like a plan. How about the beach? Maybe a B&B in Spring Lake. Spring Lake Inn takes kids...very walkable town. And you can get there by train, if you don't wan to rent a car. [ Reply | More

Spring Lake Inn is one block from the beach and takes kids...there is a beach grill there for lunch for kids. Walk into town for pizza for dinner. Good LUck. [ Reply | More
