Quick question: housekeeper/nanny called in sick today. She has been with us for around four months. How many sick days would you give? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Not a question of days but of trust. If she is sick, she is sick, you don't want her around your kids. OTH, if you think she is making it up, you have bigger problems. [ Reply | More ]

So you let her recover & don't count the days till it becomes a problem [ Reply | More ]

^^you're contagious prior to having symptoms, so the kids are already exposed anyway [ Reply | More ]

You are prob just be crazy to start a fight - not able to be sick because you are caring for a child? I guess I forfitted my right to chicken soup with my first db! As the one hiring this nanny it is your responsiblity to have a back up plan in case she can't make it into work. Depending on her to "just show up" is you own idiocy [ Reply | More ]

look, I'm a doctor, and I have no choice but to show up. The work needs to get done, you know? That's just the nature of some jobs. And many people with nannies work, there isn't always a back-up plan. [ Reply | More ]

np: You are insane. I would never want my doctor to show up with a flu, the stomach bug or any serious sickness. What kind of care would I get? A cold is one thing, but if someone is sick I'd much prefer them to call in sick. [ Reply | More ]

Anyone without a back up childcare plan is a certified idiot. Or else happy to just not go into work when their nanny doesn't/can't show up. There are plenty of reasons including subway/train malfunctions, or personal crisis that cause a person to miss work. Personally I would never want a doctor with a full blown case of the flu operating on me!! [ Reply | More ]
