np. I wonder why American women would medically need so many more c-sections than women in other countries [ Reply | More ]

i think a lot of women get to delivery stage when they have problems that in other countries they just couldn't have carried to term [ Reply | More ]

Like which countries? Because I mean other industrialized countries with better maternal and neonatal outcomes as well as better or comparable fetal death rates. [ Reply | More ]

np: I live in HK. ALL the women who can afford it (Chinese) have c-sections. natural birth is considered for peasants and also means can't pick an auspicious date . so don't tell me about how superficial american women are and how fkked up our medical system is. you know nothing. [ Reply | More ]

I didn't say American women were superficial, I am doubting that most c-sections are medically "valid". Don't get riled up over what you imagine I'm thinking. [ Reply | More ]

NP: I posted below and I have a question. What do you consider to be medically valid? I really am curious to know your opinion. Not started a fight, I swear. [ Reply | More ]

I take it to mean medically necessary - when vaginal birth would result in a worse outcome for the mother or child. [ Reply | More ]

I posted below that I opted because the doctors were not all in agreement. I always say I opted for a c-section but I remember one posted telling me it was medical and that was that! I had twins and one flipped so in the end not sure what would've happen if I went for natural. [ Reply | More ]

I am absolutely not condemning anyone for having a c-section or even questioning the right to elective c-section. I just do wonder - if these are 'medically necessary' (as so many doctors claim the vast majority of c-sections are), what makes them necessary for so many more American women than women in the Netherlands or France or Finland. No idea. I wouldn't have elected to have one if I was perfectly healthy towards the end. My OB wasn't pushing it on me either. In fact, she said to go for the natural option but the specialist was against it. [ Reply | More ]

Unless I wanted to DIE in childbirth along with my babies, then both of mine were "medically valid". [ Reply | More ]

In a sense yes. Had a medical condition and was given a choice for C or attempt natural. Not all doctors were in agreement so I opted for a C. Medical reason behind it but I still elected to have one. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I guess. Db never dropped because the umbilical cord was wrapped around her ankle. [ Reply | More ]

My OB induced me for what he felt to be "medically valid" reasons. I was pretty certain the induction wouldn't work b/c it was my first db, I had absolutely no dilation going on. According the literature, my chances of ending up with a c-section under those circumstances were over 50%. He was supportive of my tring vbac for second db but she was breech and with the previous c-section my options were limited so elected for a c-section that time too. Oh well. I just focus on the fact that my dbs were delivered safe and sound and I was healthy too. [ Reply | More ]

If you plan on having more, there are midwives/docs who will attend a VBA2C. [ Reply | More ]

So you assumed every other woman's c-section was unnecessary, but yours was special and necessary? Nice. [ Reply | More ]
