ITA. I couldn't stick it out -- started pumping only after 1 week, then stopped that 3 weeks later. [ Reply | More ]

yes, at hospital and going tomorrow. they all say there's at least a few weeks of pain before it gets easier. had a tough time with db1, thought it would be easier with db2 and it's not. i'm this close to just throwing in the towel. [ Reply | More ]

np: Have you breastfed? It felt to me like someone lighting a match on my nipple. [ Reply | More ]

I had a lot of problems - mastitis, thrush, a db with reflux and a tied frenulum. I wouldn't say it felt soft and wonderful at all times, but the only actual pain I had was before we worked out the latch and when I had thrush. Thrush KILLED. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with this. It shouldn't really hurt. It was a little uncomfortable at first, but if the latch is right, it shouldn't be painful. Also agree with poster below...you sometimes have to pull down on baby's chin and jam the nipple in to make sure they get a good, wide mouth for nursing. [ Reply | More ]

I learned to jam the baby's head on the nipple. Their mouths are so little! Sounds awful, but it worked. No LC will give you this advice. [ Reply | More ]

no, my first one did, and so glad she moved back to nyc from la. i remember thinking how violent it was, but it worked. trying to do same with db2 before he mangles my nipples beyond recognition. [ Reply | More ]

Great LC! I so hate when they tell you it "shouldn't hurt." So much guilt. I jammed and just accepted that it was likely to hurt for the first couple of weeks. [ Reply | More ]

np: I don't think they're trying to make you feel bad or guilty. They're letting you know that iuf you have pain you're doing something wrong and you should adjust your position, latch, whatever so you don't have pain anymore. [ Reply | More ]

I wondered that, too. It was a lot easier with the second, but there was still an initial very painful period. Why why why? [ Reply | More ]

I had a hard time too. I developed mastitis and could not do it anymore. I felt so guilty. [ Reply | More ]
