major period of neurological development in pregnancy is the first two trimesters--the final is basically just weight gain. (Amazingly, you don't actually have to be Einstein to know this.) [ Reply | More ]

but couldn't wait to get that epidural, I'm guessing? Screaming for the fentanyl and bupivicaine once you were in labor, but couldn't taint your body with a glass of wine? [ Reply | More ]

not in humans. but the lastest studies with rats show that the equivalent of as little as two glasses of wine a night is enough to cause neurological damage. [ Reply | More ]

many people consider that drinking in moderation, which is what i'm responding to. i'm just pointing out that you don't have to down a fifth of vodka a night to cause damage. [ Reply | More ]

No one on this thread has said anything like 2 glasses of wine every night throughout pregnancy. And the question was about the last trimester, which is generally agreed to be the least affected by alcohol. [ Reply | More ]

sorry, hate to be a hairsplitter, but the post reads "there is no evidence that drinking in moderation...does ANY damage at all." depending on what your definition of moderation is, that's simply not true. [ Reply | More ]

that is ALOT more than an occasional glass, which is what I understand us to be talking about. i didn't drink while pg, btw, but I think having a glass every now and then is fine. [ Reply | More ]

The U.S. is one of the few places in the world that makes drinking during pregnancy verboten. Your provincialism is showing. [ Reply | More ]

This is true. I saw a study published recently in England that showed no issues with moderate drinking THROUGHOUT pregnancy. Experts are worried that things have actually gone overboard in this country with women being nutso--like avoiding fish entirely is actually not good at all. [ Reply | More ]

I drank about 2 glasses of wine per night before I was pregnant then stopped when I found out (about 4-6 weeks pg)and only had champagne at a wedding or a sip of dh's- my ds was born with a congenital heart defect and needed open heart surgery at 5 days old...I know its probably irrational but I still worry that it was drinking those first weeks when iI didn't know that did it [ Reply | More ]

or: It is a risk and I think no matter what you do you always will think you are at fault if DB has a problem. My #1 is smallish and I think it is because I had high BP during pregnancy and blame myself for not being in better shape before getting pregnant. [ Reply | More ]
