Anyone have some experience/advice for a family who is expecting a baby, and wants to create a harmonious relationship between a beloved (and spoiled) pet dog, and their new DS? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Don't have any advice, but I disagree w/poster above--dog can have big jealousy issues. Must be some advice on a pet site somewhere. [ Reply | More ]

My dog was my baby before DB #1 came along. Dog was 7 years old, and we did the sniff the baby's blanket the day before baby came home, and then when you come home from the hospital make sure to greet the dog first as you usually do. Introduce them right away, and find time to go for walks, rub belly, etc. My dog has been demoted to "dog" from "1st child" but we still try to give her a lot of attention. DB #1 is obsessed with her now, and follows her all over. [ Reply | More ]

We did the same and actually upped the exercies. Had our dog walker come 2x a day and then got out for another walk as well. If DH or my mom was around I would go with the dog alone. Dog has adapted well. Maybe gets in a little more trouble than before. But loves the baby. [ Reply | More ]

i've heard that even when your dog is your baby, when you bring your db home, he turns back into a dog. [ Reply | More ]

LOL! That's how I feel about my cat NOW, and the baby's not even here yet. But the Dog's a different story. He's pretty unbelievable. I just worry what if he gets so jealous he goes after DB??? [ Reply | More ]

Felt the same way about my dog before dd was born. Its true. Most of us realize that dear dog is just well...a dog! If the dog goes after db, dog will quickly learn his place! gl. [ Reply | More ]
