looking for hotel recommendation for a friend coming to NYC from Germany. i live here so have no idea about hotels, but know that they are looking for something "reasonably priced". i'm not sure what their budget is, or how much a hotel room for 2 people would even cost in NYC. any suggestions/recommendations welcome. they probably would like to be downtown, if anything comes to mind. thanks in advance!! I'm thinking that there are some in Downtown Brooklyn, but really don't know. I live in North Brooklyn, and there aren't any up here... [ Reply | More ]

Weird. There's a Marriott just over the Brooklyn Bridge and a Holiday Inn Express on Union Street in Park Slope. There's also a Best Western in Bay Ridge. [ Reply | More ]

weird that there are none up here, or weird that i don't know? i remember seeing one (maybe the marriott) somewhere down there, but don't spend time in those neighborhoods. have been to bay ridge once (to go to century 21), and if we go to park slope it's to go to the museum/zoo/gardens/park, and i've never seen a hotel there. I'm just surprised that you're not familiar with the fact that there are hotels in Brooklyn. There's actually been a fair amount of press about these hotels and what that means about Brooklyn as a destination in and of itself (rather than just an appendage of Manhattan). But then I don't really know anything about North Brooklyn either so there you go. [ Reply | More ]

Park Central is great, looks fancy and is one block up from Central Park West (on 7th Ave) but has very reasonable rooms. I stayed last year for 129 a night. Very central good location [ Reply | More ]

thank you for the recommendation! i'll mention it to them. they're a little vague about where they'd like to stay and how much they want to spend (they've never been to nyc before), and i'm clueless about hotels in nyc. [ Reply | More ]

You can easily do some research yourself, you know! Just do a search for nyc hotels [ Reply | More ]

yeah, but it's helpful to have recommendations from other moms. i have never stayed in a hotel here, so i can't really recommend one over another... [ Reply | More ]
