A 98 has a reasonable chance of getting into 166 right? I figure out of 157 97+ in our district that at least 20-30 (being conservative) are 97s and about 20-30 won't apply at all. That leaves a max of about 110 98+s for citywide and district. Some of the 99s will get Anderson and Nest (if they picked it) knocking another 25 people or so off and will take maybe 20 spots at 9 that don't go to sibs knocking it down to 65 98+. 166 has 50 spots, and they are only expecting a few sibs. So with overaccepts they might take all the 98s, no? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You have a very good chance, but PS9 is offering only 1 G&T class this year and there might be more than 5 kids who make 90 sib cutoff. Especially if they let sibs of Anderson apply to PS9g&t as sibs since it's housed in the same bldg. Anyway, you still have better than 50/50 chance. Very good odds. Remember there are kids who are going private, Hunter or moving out of the city. I'm one of those people (99 and did not apply to any - going private)... I have to think there are more than 30 kids going private/hunter from district 3 with scores higher than 97... [ Reply | More ]

I hope you are right. One thing that scares me is the scarcity of 95s and 96s in our district--only 35 kids for those two scores combined. That is getting me nervous that the scores are all weighted high in our district and that there are MORE 99s than 98s and More 98s than 97s... [ Reply | More ]

Which only goes to prove that olsat sucks and many of these kids were prepped. BSRA was available online and kids who prepped with KTSS did well. Anyway, I think you will be fine. [ Reply | More ]

nnnp: why would they give anderson sibs priority at ps9? they are not the same school. if that happens, I want my ps9 kid to get priority into anderson over kids coming from elsewhere. [ Reply | More ]

At some point the idea was bounced around to give sibling preference to any G&T in the building. But I don't think they ever clearly said they would do this, and I think Anderson/PS 9 G&T is the only instance where it's an issue. [ Reply | More ]

Where did you hear this? Is your source credible? Would they give sibling preference for kids coming from out-of-zone? [ Reply | More ]

UWS sends hundreds of kids to private schools. Many, if not most, of these families also try out for G&T just in case of SO. Many of these kids are very high scorers. [ Reply | More ]

op: I definitely hope you are right. I would think that TT parents wouldn't opt out of their spot for g&t, but you see so many people posting about it here (including some Dalton folks) that it is scaring me. I think some of the people willing to give up private got one of their lesser choices. I haven't seen too many B, C, S or Collegiate (or Trinity & HM) posting that they would give up their spots for citywide or G&T. [ Reply | More ]

I think those schools are a little different. Many Dalton families can go public, so I can see that. But in the end, I don't see too many people pulling out for G&T, especially 166 G&T from Dalton. maybe for Anderson. There are 4 or 5 families who opted for D over Hunter also. [ Reply | More ]

Any B, C, S or Collegiate parents opting for citywide over their private spots? [ Reply | More ]
