almost every mom i know with 2 dc has a full time nanny/housekeeper. nyc. in many cases the older dc is in school 5 days a week. is this odd to anyone else? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That's me. Sure, it's a luxury -- but it also gives everyone some flexibility. DC don't get dragged around to each other's activities or playdates and I don't have to plan everything around the school day b/c I have childcare. [ Reply | More

exactly. i have a full-time nanny so that my youngest gets the naps she needs, and doesn't get dragged to all of my older ds's (special needs child) appointments. Mind you for me FT is from 7 - 3, so there's a bunch of time during the week that the three of us are together. [ Reply | More

DCs SHOULD be dragged around for things that don't involve them. It helps build their character and patience, and teaches them that they are NOT the center of the universe. [ Reply | More

They sometimes are! But I don't think that #2 should have to come with me to pick #1 up from school and sit with us in the dermatologist's office while #1 has a rash checked. I don't think that #1 should have to stop his HW and spend an hour of his afternoon going across town with me to pick #2 up from a playdate, only to have to turn around and go back home again. I want them to be grounded and patient, but I also think that there are times to make everyone's life easier (if possible). [ Reply | More
