My mom keeps giving me the crooked eye because DD is still taking bottles (she's 13.5 months). Only bottle is the first feeding, in AM. I will admit. I could cut them out entirely. But I am lazy in the AM and she has her first bottle at 6AM in bed with me and DH. She needs to be sitting up in high chair for sippy cup. When do I really need to get my ass up and feed her from high chair for that first meal? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no. Your mom needs to MHOB. You feed your baby however you want. My ds took milk from a bottle until he was 2, with no ill effects whatsoever. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Thanks ladies. Why is my mom such a freak about it? We're African-American. is it a Black thing? Or an age thing? She keeps saying, "i had you and your brother off the bottle on your first birthday. threw them all out right after the party." WTF? (Of course, my brother and I sucked our thumbs until we were TWELVE) [ Reply | More ]

I don't know if it's cultural. Once in the grocery store my ds was drinking from a bottle-- and only just over a year at this point, and an AA woman loudly told him he was "too old for a bottle." I thought it was strange-- he was such a baby still! But that's only one example. I know my ped says it's a good idea not to let it go past 18 mos, for teeth, but she told me she'd rather my son drink enough milk, and as long as we were brushing, not to worry. [ Reply | More ]
