I am looking for a short childbirth prep class. DH and I have been reading many books on the topic and preparing a lot on our own, therefor a one-day or a private class with an RN would be ideal for us. Realbirth classes are not for us since they run for four sessions, as do Diana Sinkin's at 92nd street Y. I am planning on having an epidural, so a nurse would be the most helpful rather than a Doula. I've contacted Carolyn Migliore who was recommended on this site, as well as Mary Leonard. So far no replies. Any recommendations or ideas would be appreciated! Many thanks! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You know realbirth has a weekend option, too, right? Sat. and Sun. and you're done. Dh and I took it - I learned things that I would not have had I not taken it, fwiw. [ Reply | More ]

i just logged on. i also took a class from realbirth! really loved it bc they teach you to come up with your own coping methods and getting to know yourself personally on how you best deal with pain. op - they have a class for ppl who are decided on epidural, i also highly recommend! Fern Drilling does one. I did it on the UES but I think she does it other places as well. It was 3 classes, 2 hours each one night a week and included some babycare and nursing info. Actually made a good friend there. [ Reply | More ]

Realbirth classes are great. If their schedules don't work for you, call them, explain your situation and ask if any of their teachers would do a private class for you. [ Reply | More ]

DOn't most hospitals offer a 1day class on this? I'm pretty sure NYU Tisch (in Midtown did) and therefore pretty sure it's run by nurse. [ Reply | More ]
