I'm not sure I understand why the biracial part is important, but I'd say look at NJ. Maybe even Jersey City or Hoboken for its proximity to NYC. Also, Queens is a great option these days. [ Reply | More ]

Forest Hills is a great choice. Very diverse, near the city and PS 196 and 101 are two of the best schools in the city. [ Reply | More ]

Prices are so reasonable there too. Can get a 1000 sq. ft. 2 bed/1 bath for about $350k. [ Reply | More ]

It's mostly co-ops up to the $500K range. Houses are $600 - millions range. I'm not a city person and this is the burbs really. Nice parks, walkable, great Hudson River views. Zoo, Botanical Garden, Wave Hill all nearby. City is still very commutable. [ Reply | More ]

co-ops are the biggest scam going. [ Reply | More ]

I'll just have to assume that you don't live in NYC. Co-ops are the major housing here. [ Reply | More ]

i've been looking at nyack. it's a good enough distance from NYC for me (because i'm sick of nyc), but still a decent commute for dh. our budget is in the $400-475k range, and i've been seeing some cute houses and condos online...all within walking distance to the main drag. [ Reply | More ]

WAY too far a commute. I'd rather live anywhere in Bergen. [ Reply | More ]

Why is that bitchy? Nyack is at least a 90min commute each way, it's not commutable imo. I didn't say you're an ahole for thinking of living there! [ Reply | More ]

Definitely Maplewood. We have lots of biracial families. Schools are excellent, despite what you read here. (Check the stats. Lots of AP scholars in the HS, lots of music, art, theatre, dance, writers, etc.) [ Reply | More ]
