My 2yo was freaking out yesterday and flailing and hitting me and I was trying to calm him down and he hit my in the face and before I knew what happened, I hit him back. I can't believe I lost it like that. I am really disgusted with myself. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Learn from it and try not to do it again. My 2.5yo ds goes through phases of this and I've come close to retaliating. Try to keep it in perspective he is 2 and there are other ways to deal with this. It may be different for your son but often when mine is behaving very badly he is actually just hungry, thirsty or tired. Good luck and remember it will just be a phase. Also I doubt very much that he will remember you hitting him, just don't do it again! [ Reply | More ]

I am so upset. I can't believe I did it. I think about how he must have felt to see me lost control like that and it just makes me sick. [ Reply | More ]

THe best thing I have found when my 2 yo does that is to leave him in a safe spot, like his room, for a while. If I sit calmly, it drives him crazy and if I raise my voice, he loses it. I have to ignore it, then it stops. [ Reply | More ]

just try to do better next time. when they get tantrummy like that, remember it's not about you, doesn't necessarily reflect on you. They are learning to make it in the world and it is hard. if you are thinking he should no better about whatever he is tantrumming about, then he must not. He's still figuring it out and needs you to teach him. We sometimes think they are ready to move to the next step and they aren't yet. I haven't hit, but I get where it comes from. So forgive yourself and do better next time. good luck. [ Reply | More ]
