Those who have DCs who regressed...at what age did these regressions happen? I feel like I'm on pins & needles watching DS to see if he starts to lose whatever progress he's made. He's nearly 3.5 now, but still delayed. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

just started happening with my dc. He's 3.5 has a dx on the spectrum and has been getting services since 2. Dev Ped feels the regression is from seizures. We're going for testing next week. [ Reply | More ]

NP: what makes your dev. ped. think the regression is from seizures? Was your DC high functioning before now? [ Reply | More ]

or: Yes, very high functioning and still is but has been having zone outs. I made the apt b/c of these zone outs. They are not sure they are seizures b/c they last 2 -4 hours one time it was 24 hours. His eye contact has regressed and language ... we're running tests next week EEG ect. It's common to have regression from seizures. [ Reply | More ]

^ dev ped said seizure or metabolic disorders can cause the cognative regression that she saw in dc. I hope dev ped is wrong and it's just regression before progression. [ Reply | More ]

OMG that must be rough. I have never heard of a DC regressing at this age. Most I know had it happen around 18 mos-2 yrs. [ Reply | More ]

I thought a typical regression was when a child at a much younger age has certain skills (talking, pointing, eye contact ) and hen loses it. Is this later regression typical for spectrum kids? [ Reply | More ]

np: I have a friend whose son goes through regressions, sometimes a few/year. they think it's related to his mitochondrial disease. And another whose son has severe epilepsy as well as ASD. he's lost a lot of skills, esp after bad grand mals. [ Reply | More ]

We never saw pure regression. What we HAVE seen is lots of fallow periods. They almost always mean dc is working on something big underneath, and they are followed by periods of progress. It's never a straight line. [ Reply | More ]

This I have heard of but never experienced with my dc. My ds's progress has been incredibly slow but steady, it's killer. However, just the idea of a regression would absolutely cause me to lose my mind. [ Reply | More ]

Same here. Started regressing at 18 month lost language. After that slow and steady progress. From time to time we have some slight behavior rgression but usually that's befor a big leap in skills [ Reply | More ]

I don't know that you're waiting for a regression per se. I don't think it happens that way. You'll see peaks and valleys but why would you see true regression? [ Reply | More ]

Because I was told by our dr. that we need to be concerned if he stops making progress or, starts regressing. [ Reply | More ]

That is true but I don't think you need to be worried that it will happen. I think true regression is what happens BEFORE you start therapy. Anything after that might be a regressive/plateau PERIOD but not really regression - at least with every kid I know!~ [ Reply | More ]

Regression happened between 9-12 months. Stopped babbling, stopped making eye contact, started zoning out. Personality changed. [ Reply | More ]
